OPEN SV presents Empowerment Through Enterprise: Let No Girl Be Left Behind…, an event where we will meet Saba Gul (Founder of BLISS) and Khalida Brohi (Founder of Sughar). Both Gul and Brohi are young Pakistani entrepreneurs who started their social enterprise with one aim in mind – to empower, educate and enrich the lives of other Pakistani women.

OPEN SV is very proud to be presenting these young social entrepreneurs who are participating in SOCAP11, a conference in San Francisco dedicated to the flow of capital towards social good. Come join us for an informative and inspiring presentation by these women on their work and mission!
Saba Gul

“Imagine, as a teenager, laboring 14 hours a day for survival, leaving no time for school. Imagine, with no skills or education, accepting this life for your future generations. This is the reality for over 4 million Pakistani youth. Unable to forego the wages from their work, and unable to escape poverty without an education, these girls are stuck in a cycle. They remain illiterate, unskilled, oppressed, and poor.”

Saba Gull, Founder, BLISS Pakistan

BLISS is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering adolescent girls in rural Pakistan through education and entrepreneurship training. Their mission is to retain in school girls who are at risk of dropping out, or have never been schooled, and to give them practical, income-boosting skills. Website: http://bagsforbliss.org/

Khalida Brohi

“Gender discrimination and violence against women lives in many forms but when this is deliberately connected to customs and traditions, that is when injustice is allowed to run free. For centuries women in tribal communities of Pakistan have faced injustice as a part of tradition – to be exchanged for marriages, to be married of in childhood, to be given as a peace offering in solving tribal disputes and even to be killed in the name of honor.”

Khalida Brohi, Founder Sughar

Sughar aims toward providing an awareness and socio-economic empowerment to tribal women by developing their skills and providing them with education, awareness and income generating opportunities. These will enable them a voice and a leadership role in not only their households but in society too, eventually helping to lower the rate of violence and gender discrimination against them.

Event is FREE, however we require that you kindly register online.
